Last season the Hungarian goalkeeper Szabolcs Safar and the Polish sweeper Roman Szewczyk were strong pillars of the team. 40 times international Heimo Pfeifenberger, however, was unable to play at his best because of an injury. The team of Miroslav Polak, who won two Yugoslav championships as a player of Partizan Belgrade (1976/1978) and was promoted to the Bundesliga with Salzburg, lost the cup final 3:4 to Grazer AK after penalty kicks (2:2 after prolongation). Afterwards it was decided not to prolong the contract with coach Polak so that the club is now looking for a new coach. Strukturell ist der SV Salzburg vom Verein zur Aktiengesellschaft mutiert. Aufbauer Robert Ibertsberger zog schon im Winter nach Vededig. Kürzlich haben Peter Lipcsei, Sladjan Nikolic und Attila Korsos den Verein verlassen. Und Toni Polster gab seinen Rücktritt. Nun sind wenigstens keine Spieler mehr fremd finanziert. Zu den Aktivposten gehörten letzte Saison der ungarische Torhüter Szabolcs Safar und der polnische Libero Roman Szewczyk. Wegen Verletzungspech kam der 40fache Internationale Heimo Pfeifenberger dagegen nicht auf sein gewohntes Rendement. Das Team von Miroslav Polak, der als Spieler mit Partizan Belgrad zwei jugoslawische Meistertitel gewann (1976/1978) und mit Salzburg in die Bundesliga aufstieg, verlor den Cupfinal gegen den Grazer AK mit 3:4 im Penaltyschiessen (2:2 n.V.). Danach hat man sich entschieden, den Vertrag mit Polak nicht zu verlängern und sucht nun nach einem geeigneten Nachfolger.
