| After the most successful 1998/1999 season with 3rd rank in Primera Division and the qualification for the final of the Cupwinners' Cup, Real Mallorca had to be content with 10th place last season. In the upcoming season Luis Aragones is the coach on the island. Just like his predecessor Fernando Vazquez he will rely on the backbone Nadal, Engonga, Ibagaza and Tristan. The central midfield is especially interesting. The Spanish international Engonga plays the defensive part so that Argentina's Ibagaza is able to support the offensive. The good organization in midfield profits mainly striker Diego Tristan. Scoring 18 goals last season, the 24-year-old is considered one of the greatest talents in Spain. He will most likely move to one of the big clubs in the country soon. In defense the islanders count on Nadal's experience. Born on Mallorca, the former international (46 matches for Spain) won five championships and the Champions League in 1992 with Barcelona. | |
| Nach der erfolgreichen Saison 1998/99 mit dem dritten Rang in der Primera Division und der Qualifikation für den Final des Cupsieger-Cups musste sich Real Mallorca in der vergangenen Spielzeit mit dem zehnten Rang zufrieden geben. Im nächsten Jahr wird Luis Aragones die Mannschaft von der Ferieninsel trainieren. Er wird wie sein Vorgänger Fernando Vazquez auf die Achse Nadal, Engonga, Ibagaza und Tristan setzen. Zu beachten ist dabei vor allem das zentrale Mittelfeld. Der spanische Internationale Engonga hält dem Argentinier Ibagaza den Rücken frei, damit dieser die Offensive unterstützen kann. Von der guten Organisation im Mittelfeld profitiert besonders Stürmer Diego Tristan. Der 24-Jährige erzielte in der letzten Saison 18 Treffer und gilt in Spanien als eines der grössten Talente. Tristan wird wohl schon bald zu einem Grossklub des Landes wechseln. In der Abwehr zählen die Insulaner auf die Routine Nadals. Der gebürtige Mallorquiner wurde mit Barcelona fünfmal Meister und gewann 1992 die Champions League. Zudem absolvierte er 46 Länderspiele für Spanien. | |
