In 1997 they were promoted to the highest league, in 1998 they won the championship, and last year they celebrated their 75th birthday. The club is named after the Serbian national hero Milos Obilic. After the Second World War Obilic stood for the open politics of the government. So the club was renamed FK Cuburac. When it was merged with FK Sumarica in 1952, it was renamed Obilic again and played in the regional leagues of Belgrade and Serbia. The breakthrough came with the dismantling of Yugoslavia, when war lord Zeljko Raznatovic Arkan was named director. He bought talented players from small Serbian clubs, who dreamed of a career abroad. In the 1997/98 season Obilic lost only one game in 33 rounds, being the first novice to win the championship. Although the attendance was only 1000 per game, Arkan had a new stadium built. Last winter he was killed, which caused the team to falter. Obilic dropped back from 1st to 3rd rank. As coach Stanislav Karasi, a former international, did not want to participate in the UIC, he was fired by director Dragoslav Sekularec and replaced by Zlatko Krmpotic, the former defender of Red Star Belgrade. One of the strongholds of Obilic, which usually plays a 3-5-2 system, is the physical strength of the players. The stars are Nikola Lazetic, a highly skilled technician in midfield, the offensive defender Predrag Ocokoljic and goal keeper Milard Korac, who was called to the Yugoslav Euro 2000 selection as the third goalkeeper. Last season Gabriel Radojicic was the best goal-scorer (19 goals). In der jüngsten Vergangenheit hatte der Vorortsklub viel Grund zum Feiern: 1997 den erstmaligen Aufstieg in die Elite, 1998 den Meistertitel und letztes Jahr das 75jährige Bestehen. Den Namen bekam der Verein vom serbischen Nationalhelden Milos Obilic verliehen. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg stand der Name Obilic für die von der Regierung propagierte Politik der Öffnung, weshalb der Klub zum FK Cuburac umgetauft wurde. Aus der Fusion mit dem FK Sumarica entstand 1952 wieder Obilic, das aber über Jahre in regionalen Meisterschaften Belgrads und Serbiens spielte. Der Durchbruch Obilics begann mit dem Zerfall Jugoslawiens, als Kriegsführer Zeljko Raznatovic Arkan zum Direktor bestimmt wurde. Aus kleinen serbischen Mannschaften erwarb er hoffnungsvolle Spieler, die sich eine Zukunft im Ausland erhofften. In der Saison 1997/98 erlitt Obilic in 33 Runden nur eine Niederlage und gewann als erster Neuling den Titel. Obwohl die Fangemeinde mit 1000 Zuschauern pro Heimspiel klein ist, liess Arkan ein neues Stadion errichten. Im vergangenen Winter wurde er getötet, worauf die Leistungen von Obilic nachliessen. Vom 1. fiel es auf den 3. Platz zurück. Weil er am UEFA-Intertoto-Cup nicht teilnehmen wollte, wurde der ehemalige Nationalspieler Stanislav Karasi von Direktor Dragoslav Sekularec als Trainer kürzlich abgesetzt und durch Zlatko Krmpotic ersetzt, den ehemaligen Verteidiger von Roter Stern Belgrad. Zu den Stärken Obilics, das meist im 3-5-2-System auftritt, gehört die gute physische Verfassung der Spieler. Zu den wenigen Stars gehören im Mittelfeld der technisch brillante Nikola Lazetic, der offensiv gefährliche Aussenverteidiger Predrag Ocokoljic und Goalie Milard Korac, der als Nummer drei Jugoslawiens ein Aufgebot für die Europameisterschaften bekam. Bester Skorer wurde letzte Saison Gabriel Radojicic mit 19 Toren.
