From 1948 on the club took part in the championships of Czechoslovakia; in reference to the local chemical industry it was called "Jiskra" (spark). The qualification for the Cup quarter final in 1988 was their biggest success in this period. After the political separation the team was promoted to 2nd league. When the company Synot, the producer of playing machines, began to invest money into the club in 1994, the development accelerated. In 1997, when the club celebrated 70 years of existence, they were promoted to 2nd Division, and a year ago to the "Gambrinus League". The stock corporation of the 1. FC Synot owns the small Siruch stadium, which should be replaced by a new one, a water sports centre, a four star hotel and a restaurant. Although rank 11 in the first season in the highest Czech league was considered a success, many had expected more after a glorious start with 13 points out of seven matches. But when Jiri Kowalik, who had scored ten of his twelve goals in the first eleven games, lost his marksmanship, they dropped from 3rd place to 11th. His partner in attack, Vladimir Malar, who came back to Stare Mesto from Slavia Prague two years ago, was more consistent. Der Klub aus der Kleinstadt nahe der heutigen slowakischen Grenze wurde 1927 unter dem Namen SK Stare Mesto gegründet. Ab 1948 nahm er in Anlehnung zur lokalen Chemie-Industrie unter der Bezeichnung "Jiskra" (Funke) an den unteren Ligen der Tschechoslowakei teil. Die Qualifikation für den Cup-Viertelfinal 1988 stellte damals den grössten Erfolg dar. Nach der politischen Teilung des Landes machte sich der Klub unabhängig. 1997 stieg er in die 2. Liga auf. Seit die Firma Synot, die elektronische Würfel- und Wettspiel-Automaten herstellt, in den Verein investiert (1994), geht es sportlich rapid aufwärts. Anlässlich des 70-Jahr-Jubiläums stieg er in die 2. Division und vor Jahresfrist in die "Gambrinus-Liga" auf. Die Aktiengesellschaft des 1. FC Synot besitzt nebst dem kleinen Siruch-Stadion, das in den nächsten zwei Jahren einem Moderneren Platz machen soll, ein Wassersportzentrum, ein Viersternhotel und ein Restaurant, wo die Geschäftsbeziehungen gepflegt werden. In seiner ersten Saison in der obersten tschechischen Liga stellte der 11. Rang für den 1. FC Synot zwar einen Erfolg dar, doch hatte nach dem glänzenden Start noch mehr erwartet werden dürfen. Aus den ersten sieben Spielen hatte der Klub 13 Punkte geholt. Doch als der Stern von Jiri Kowalik verblasst war, rutschte sein Klub sukzessive vom 3. auf den 11. Rang ab. Zehn seiner zwölf Saisontore schoss Kowalik in den ersten elf Spielen. Beständiger war der andere Stürmer, Vladimir Malar, der vor zwei Jahren von Slavia Prag nach Stare Mesto zurückkehrte.
