The winner of the 1982 Champions' Cup finished the last season only 8th, the poorest result in six years. In his third year the team manager John Gregory was unable to solve the problems in offence. Frenchman David Ginola, who came from Tottenham Hotspur, suffered from weight problems. During the entire season he did not come up to the expectations and scored only three goals. The best scorer of the team was Dion Dublin with eight goals scored. The team will have to do without captain Gareth Southgate. Der Verteidiger hat den Vertrag mit dem Klub, bei dem er sechs Jahre engagiert gewesen war, nicht mehr verlängert.
