| The old mining town Tatabanya is located 56 kilometres West of Budapest on the freeway that links the Hungarian capital to Vienna. After the successful eighties with five appearances in the European Cup the club was relegated to the 3rd Division twice in the nineties. Playing coach Joszef Kiprich received good critics lately. He had gained European experience with the national team and Feyenoord Rotterdam. When he got injured in winter he was replaced by Ferenc Ebedli, under whose guidance, however. In the final round Tatabanya won only five points in 21 matches. Then one incident followed another: President Peter Biro condemned Istvan Vince, 37 years old and 44 calls to the national team, to the Juniors’ trainings, Slovak’s Kis and Georgian Zirakadze had a fight during a training, and the experienced players refused to play altogether. After the relegation the club management realised that it was high time for building a new team, as the leading players averaged 34 years.

| Die alte Bergwerkstadt Tatabanya liegt 56 km westlich von Budapest an der Autobahn, welche die ungarische Hauptstadt mit der österreichischen verbindet. Nach den erfolgreichen 80-er Jahren mit fünf Europacup-Teilnahmen stieg der Klub in den 90-ern zweimal in die 3. Division ab. Gute Arbeit wurde zuletzt Spielertrainer Jozsef Kiprich attestiert. Er hatte in der Nationalmannschaft und bei Feyenoord Rotterdam europäische Anerkennung erlangt. Nach seiner Verletzung wurde er im Winter durch Ferenc Ebedli ersetzt. Unter ihm holte Tatabanya in der Finalrunde aus 21 Spielen nur fünf Zähler. Ein Unglück folgte dem andern: Präsident Peter Biro schickte den 44fachen Internationalen Istvan Vince (34) ins Junioren-Training, der Slowake Kis und der Georgier Zirakadze stritten sich während einer Übungseinheit, die Routiniers spielten wegen angeblicher Verletzung nicht mehr. Nach dem Abstieg drängte sich ein Neuaufbau auf, wiesen die Altstars doch ein Durchschnittsalter von 34 Jahren auf. | |
