It is located in the plain of the Po river at the foot of the prealps. The main sources of income are industry, agriculture and tourism. Brescia is not as lively a city as Milan or Torino, but combines life-style with art, architecture (Renaissance) and history instead. The city has a picturesque hinterland with mountains, the Garda, Iseo and Idro lakes. Promoted to Serie A for the eleventh time last season, Brescia was able to remain there for the first time in 34 years. Major contributions to this success came from Dario Hubner and Roberto Baggio. In two Serie A and two Serie B seasons Hubner scored no fewer than 75 goals for the Brescia team. As he finished sixth in the scorers' list this season (17 goals), Piacenza and Sampdoria Genova were very interested in signing him. Up to December, when he got injured, Baggio did not score at all, but in February he came back triumphantly. His eight goals in spring brought him back to the threshold of the national team. The defence with Daniele Bonera, who made a lasting impression, Aimo Diana and Fabio Petruzzi performed very well during the entire season. The team pillars in midfield were Jonathan Bachini, borrowed from Juventus Torino, and the twins Antonio and Emanuele Filippini. The team is coached by Carlo Mazzone (64), the senior of the Serie A coaches. Brescia is the 13th station of his 33 year old career. The man from Rome was employed by six different clubs within six years. He was the one who made Roberto Baggio's transfer to Brescia possible, as the star forward remembered their common work in Bologna well. It was in the 1997/98 season that Baggio scored 20 goals, which qualified him for Italy's World Cup team. Baggio and Mazzone, however, will miss the UEFA Intertoto Cup matches as they will spend the second half of July in a training camp with the first Brescia team. Um die Dienste des Sechsten der Skorerliste 2000/01 (17 Treffer) bemühten sich im Sommer Piacenza und Sampdoria Genua. Baggio traf bis zu seiner Verletzung im Dezember nie, gab im Februar aber ein triumphales Comeback. Dank seiner acht Tore im Frühling machte er sich wieder zum Thema für die Nationalmannschaft. Gut schlug sich letzte Saison die Defensive mit Daniele Bonera, einer der Entdeckungen der Liga, und Aimo Diana auf der rechten Seite sowie Fabio Petruzzi im Zentrum. Im Mittelfeld waren Jonathan Bachini, Leihgabe von Juventus Turin, und die Zwillinge Antonio und Emanuele Filippini die Leistungsträger. Das Team wird von Carlo Mazzone (64), dem Doyen unter den Übungsleitern in der Serie A, betreut. Brescia ist die 13. Station seiner 33 Jahre dauernden Trainer-Laufbahn. Im UEFA-Intertoto-Cup werden Baggio und Mazzone allerdings vorerst fehlen, da die erste Mannschaft in der zweiten Juli-Hälfte im Trainingslager weilt.
