The club played several times in the highest league of the Soviet Union under the original name of Piscevic. As of 1994 the Moldavian club took part in the European Cup five consecutive times, but never made it to the second round. Rather modest teams such as Omonia Nikosia (CYP), Sion, Neuchâtel Xamax (SWI), Dinamo 93 Minsk (BLS) or Anderlecht (BEL) were insurmountable obstacles. The striking weakness in away games was responsible for the elimination from the 1999 UIC against Polonia Warsaw. Since the creation of the Moldavian League, Tiligul, as the club has been called since eleven years now, finished 2nd seven times (mostly behind Zimbru Kichinew) and 3rd twice. Three Cup wins in a row (1993-1995) show a remarkable consistency, too. Last season's 5th place was an exception. Wladimir Wusaty, who had played for Nistru Ostaci and replaced Alexandru Spiridon as Tiraspol's coach last April, can rely on three internationals: defenders Jurie Priganjuk and Aleksandar Kowalenko and striker Sergej Pogreban. They all are 23 years old or younger. Striker Sergej Kowaltchuk (19) and defender Eduard Grossou are members of the U21 selection. Mit 140 000 Einwohnern ist Tiraspol die zweitgrösste Stadt Moldawiens hinter dem 70 km entfernten Kischinew. Unter dem Gründungsnamen Piscevic spielte der Verein verschiedentlich in der obersten Division der UdSSR. Ab 1994 nahmen die Moldawier fünf Mal in Folge am Europacup teil, vermochten sich aber nie durchzusetzen. Seit der Einführung der moldawischen Liga hat Tiligul, so die Bezeichnung seit elf Jahren, sieben Mal Rang 2 (meist hinter Serienmeister Zimbru Kischinew) und zwei Mal Rang 3 belegt. Drei Cupsiege in Serie (1993-1995) zeugen ebenfalls von grosser Konstanz. Da fiel der 5. Platz im letzten Herbst geradezu ab. Wladimir Wusaty, der früher für Nistru Ostaci spielte und in Tiraspol im April Alexandru Spiridon als Trainer ersetzte, kann auf drei Internationale zählen: die Verteidiger Jurie Priganjuk und Aleksandar Kowalenko sowie Stürmer Sergej Pogreban sind alle erst um die 23 Jahre alt.
