This year they reached the quarter finals of the Cup Winners’ Cup. Thanks to the substantial contribution of the road construction company Ceste Mostari and the broker firm Publikum, however, the 40 000 inhabitants of the third largest Slovenian city (behind Ljubljana and Zagreb) get to see attractive football, too. The club takes special care of the youth, which is underlined by the fact that five Celje players are members of Slovenia’s U21 squad. Two of them, Aleksandar Radosavljevic and Bostjan Znuderl, belong to the team pillars in midfield. Bosnia’s international goalkeeper Amel Mujcinovic (27) is one of the oldest players of the team. Damir Pekic, the best scorer, left the club for his home club Maribor, the reigning Champion. Last season, Pekic had scored 23 goals for Celje. There is obviously no lack of talent in the team, but the question is whether they can be convinced of staying with the club. The 80 years old Skalna-klet stadium, which holds only 2130 spectators, is hardly the place to spend the best years as a football player. Dank der kräftigen finanziellen Unterstützung des Strassenbau-Unternehmens Ceste Mostari und der Broker-Firma Publikum wird in der mit 40 000 Einwohnern hinter Ljubljana und Maribor drittgrössten Stadt Sloweniens auch attraktiver Fussball gespielt. Von guter Nachwuchsarbeit zeugen die fünf Spieler Celjes im U21-Kader Sloweniens. Von ihnen gehören Aleksandar Radosavljevic und Bostjan Znuderl zu Celjes Leistungsträgern im Mittelfeld. Der bosnische Nationalgoalie Amel Mujcinovic (27) ist der drittälteste im Team. Torschützenkönig Damir Pekic kehrte im Sommer zu seinem Stammverein Maribor, dem aktuellen Meister, zurück. Pekic hatte letzte Saison 23 Tore für Celje geschossen. An Talenten fehlt es in Celje also nicht -- ob diese auch gehalten werden können? Mit 2130 Zuschauerplätzen ist das 80-jährige Skalna-klet-Stadion nicht der ideale Ort, um seine besten Jahre als Fussballer zu verbringen.
